2004 Marmaduke (Sabattis)
2004 Marmaduke (Sabattis) |
Description: |
James "Marmaduke" Seton, one of the most
beloved Scouters from the Hiawatha Council. He gave much of his time,
money, and effort promoting the Scouting program for decades, involved with
Boy Souts, Girl Scouts and Voyageurs, in the US and Canada. Marmaduke died
in 2003. In 2004 a set of three patches was issued to raise money for a
special patch that would be given to all those attending summer camp in
2005. The 2004 patches featured the cartoon character dog "Marmaduke" at
the entrance of each of the Hiawatha Seaway Council's three camps, Camp
Woodland, Camp Portaferry and Sabattis Scout Reservation, and included
Marmaduke's back pack and canoe paddle. Marmaduke was quite a talker, and
known for his story-telling. In fact, he could sometimes go on and on with
his stories. This was fondly known as being "duked," and Marmaduke even
frequently used this term. It was a common declaration - even by him -
after he regailed you with some of his stories to say "You've been duked."
Those three words are at the bottom of these patches, one word on each. |
